"Unique" names...
I see so many women on here asking for suggestions on unique names and spellings. I know that the current baby naming trend is all about the unique but as an educator I'm here to beg you all to please save your child frustration in the future and just give them spellings and names that make sense! We try our best to be sensitive to uniqueness but we as teachers don't know what it should be pronounced as beforehand and more often than not end up with a frustrated child on our hands because they had to correct us 😒 my colleagues and I have had many discussions about this and I promise most teachers agree! If you want "unique" maybe try the traditional spelling of a name that's just not popular at the moment, or if you want to mess with spelling at least have it make sense phonetically for how someone would sound it out. Im due with baby#1 now, a boy who will have a very traditional name of Michael Thomas after my dad and husband, not Mikel, Mikall, or Micelle, just the traditional Michael. Our girl name for the future however is unique simply because it's not currently popular: Rosemary Faye. Traditional spelling of a very traditional name but not too many Rosemary's around now! I'm not bashing anyone for their choice because after all it is YOUR child to name but just offering another perspective on this whole current baby naming trend....
