If you feel the need to hide it from him, something is wrong.
I told my boyfriend, without going into graphic (triggering) details, so that if I ever need help to avoid relapse or just need help loving myself, he has an idea of what exactly it is that I'm up against.

It's good to be able to open up to those close to you.

Also if for any reason you were ever to relapse if those close to you are aware of your history they can notice the warning signs much sooner to help you get the help you would need.

I would want him to know so that if I displayed those behaviors again he could call me on it and help me out with support.

I did, but it really hurt our relationship because he couldn't understand my insecurities and I couldn't explain what I needed from him to help me recover and stay healthy. I relapsed into purging about a year ago and got very very unhealthy, and he told me he would leave me if he caught me doing it again. He said he couldn't bear to see me waste away into skin and bones. It's such a personal thing, and some people don't know the appropriate way to respond, if there even is an appropriate way.

I told my husband about mine before we got engaged. I was on my ex's truck at the time, trying to get back to the apartment so I could move out my ex broke up with me while I was on his truck, and I called my husband (romantic interest at the time.) and he got so mad because I hadn't eaten in about 3 days because of my ex. My husband was in TX at the time and I was in Phoenix AZ. My husband ordered a pizza for me and paid for it over the phone so I didn't get to the point I had been when I was 16 (83 pounds soaking wet.) and he knew that if I didn't eat I would get sick when I did try to eat. Now a days I do the cooking and usually try to eat several small meals a day because big meals make me feel horrible.

I think this is something that just kind of depends on the situation.

If you feel like you're heading back down that road, then yes definitely so he knows the signs and can get you help if needed.

BUT

if you're recovered and doing well, I don't see a point in bringing it up. Why bring up something that doesn't need to be brought back to the surface?
