Baby names from different cultures?

Question

What do you guys think about naming your children names that are of different cultural backgrounds? Like for instance, I am not Asian, but I name my daughter Ming, or something. I was on the fence about it, because I like quite a few names from different ethnic backgrounds, and then I heard someone say it's kind of like cultural appropriation and I can see why they feel that way! What do you guys think?

Honestly,I see many Americans with Arabic words name and it makes me laugh a lot,because first,that word doesn't make sense and it's not a name,and 2,it's not cute whatsoever and Arabic people stopped using that word like 200 years ago😂..then I see comments like wow that's so pretty wow that's so original and it just makes me cring..and basically 90% of the names in the top 100 list of Arabic names are words I can't even read! And I speak/Reas Arabic fluently..

So I suggest people do a lot of research before choosing their baby's name from another culture,just so it don't look stupid.

I think it's perfectly fine but I cringe when ppl choose names in a different language from random words or phrases that they think sound nifty without expecting the kids to actually encounter ppl that understand their names. Please just translate the name and think about whether or not you'd name your kid that in English. If you wouldn't, it's probably best to pick another name. Amore or Habeeb are classic examples.

plenty of names are cross-cultural. I mean some choices might seem pretty odd to others but maybe they have reasons and it's a cool story. you never know. I say do what u want.

Just be sure to consider pronunciation, teasing, and nicknames, like any other name.

I'm not Jewish at all but my name is Shoshona.  I was named after my Jewish Godmother.  I like names from different cultures, they sound so pretty.  However I will be giving my children traditional names to save them from the heartaches I've had with my name.

In general, don't do it...I can see people giving their non-White child an American name, if that child is going to be raised in America.

If it has nothing to do with your culture OR ethnicity, it's best to leave it alone, because you're taking away something from a culture without taking the time to understand it.

This is me saying this as an Indian person, by the way.
