Induction
On Monday June 8th I was at my weekly appointment at the Birthing Centre. My Doctor had talked about inducing me early due to my high blood pressure but I never expected what followed. There was protein in my urine during my weekly appointment and so at 37wks + 2days he made the call to induce me that night! I wasn't very smart and did not bring my hospital bag or anything with me because I thought I would be going home! My doctor inserted cervidil at 5:30 and mentioned that it most likely wouldn't put me into full on labour because my cervix wasn't favourable and that he would come back and rupture my water bag and start pitocin. He said I'd probably have the baby Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Through the night I started getting cramps which I was told would happen. By 5ish the next morning I was in a fair amount of pain. I told the staff and they assured me that it just meant the cervidil was doing what it was supposed to be doing so I went back in to my room and dealt with it. By 8 am I went out and said I was in a lot of pain and that it didn't seem to be going away. The nurse came in and sat with me feeling my belly and then checked me. Turns out I had actually been in active labour for a few hours as I was already 6/7cm dilated. They got me in the tub just after 9 and I caved and asked for the epidural. They said to wait until my Dr came down and they would see if he could do it. After a little while in the tub I told the nurse I felt like I had to poop and asked if I should get out and try. She said to get on the bed and get checked first. When I did she said I was 9/10 cm and it was time to push. 30 minutes later at 10:20am out came Kinley, weighing in at 5lbs 13oz and absolutely perfect!
