How should I sleep ?

So this is my first pregnancy and I've been reading about the position I should I sleep in and most of the books and websites say my left side but I find it so uncomfortable but I'm worried to sleep any other way. Just want to know what everyone thinks

I talked to my midwife about this. And she said that your body will tell you when a position is uncomfortable. So for now sleep which ever way is comfortable. It will not hurt the baby :)

Your main blood vessel that returns blood to your heart flows up your right side, which is why they recommend the left side to lay on so that blood can easily flow through that vessel. If you are able to lay on your left side you may experience less swelling because the blood flows easier, but you won't do any damage by sleeping in other positions. Have you tried a pregnancy pillow? They're wonderful!

My doc said second and third  trimester on my side. Preferably left side as it increases blood flow to the baby but do what is most comfortable. She also said not flat on my back after first trimester at all! Said it cuts off blood supply to the baby.

My maternal fetal medicine doc said the same thing that it's really for your comfort to be sleeping on your side as soon sleeping on your back/stomach will become uncomfortable. My doc said that you don't have to really be all the way on your side, but that putting a small pillow or wedge under one of your butt cheeks will tilt you far enough on your side to be effective. No need to worry!
