When to travel?

Hi everybody! I am from Chihuahua Mexico, I planned to go spend 2 weeks over there this July but since I am 8 weeks preggo everybody is telling me I should not be driving or riding buses in my condition... It would be a 12 hour drive from Fort Worth Tx to Chihuahua, and then another 12 hours coming back. Has anybody heard about the risks of being on the road while being preggo? My doctor said it was ok but family here dont want me to travel 😓 any comments?? I miss my family but I would never do anything to hurt my baby. Thanks and God bless!

I'm pretty sure you will be fine your in your first weeks and enjoy your feeling great and go see your family bc further on that's can be more dangerous than it is now when I was 6-8 weeks I went on a vacation about 6 hours far and 6 hours back I felt great and nothing seemed to go wrong plus if your doctor is saying your ok then you will be fine he is your doctor and knows more 😉

I don't see why driving in a car would do anything wrong to you or baby. You will be tired and that's about it. If you get car sick it might be a little rough but as long as you drink lots of water and stop to walk around after a while I don't see any harm in going to see your family! You could also fly there and you would be fine too.

As long as you aren't in a car crash (which can happen anytime) you will be fine. If you need you can always stop along the way and get out to stretch your legs and such.

It may not have been that far but I did a 3hr round trip on my due date with no issues.

Hormones while pregnant can cause a woman to be more likely to get a blood clot. Just make sure you move your legs a lot and get up and move around every few hours or so. Also be careful drinking and eating, don't want to ingest any parasites

My doctor told me if I travel, that we have to stop every hour, and get out of car, move around, and also carry a card or note from her, in case of emergency, about the pregnancy.

They say the best time for traveling is the second trimester, but that's mostly because you supposedly feel best around that time. I did most of my traveling my first and was fine as long as I brought lots of snacks and water. Your chance of miscarriage is still higher in the first trimester. You could also have a miscarriage at home in bed without ever taking any risks, though. So if you feel up to the trip, why not? I second getting up and walking around as much as you can. And try to avoid too much stress, i.e. pick the most convenient connection, etc.

If your doctor said its fine, just go. I am 22 weeks and travel about 7 hours in the car. The next day I travel about another 4 1/2 hours.
