Formula or breast?

Question

We all know breast is best for baby but it's not always the solution that works for everyone. What are you doing? Feel free to comment with why you made your decision and how your journey has been so far.

Please keep comments kind as not everyone is able to/wishes to breastfeed and there is often a lot of guilt surrounding formula feeding. Both options are the "right" one as long as baby is healthy and happy!

Breast is best! Yes it is extremely demanding but that liquid gold is what every baby needs and loves!! And it normally is extremely painful for the first 2-4weeks but then it gets easier and easier each week! My baby girl is now 9months old and I'm still breastfeeding. I love the bond. And I think it's fun knowing that she's getting a different meal/taste depending on what I eat. Whereas formula is borrrrring lol 🍼🍼🍼

Initially, I didn't want to breastfeed. I wanted nothing to do with it. My husband wanted me to just try it before deciding against it. I promised him I would give it a week. The birth didn't go as planned at all. I ended up having an emergency c section after two hours of pushing. My son was hypoglycemic and was sent to the NICU. I didn't get to have skin to skin contact. I didn't get to hold him until he was two hours old and I only got 5 minutes with him before they took me to my room. The lc brought me a pump to use so I was pumping colostrum to bring on my NICU visits. I was only allowed to come for his feedings and with help from the lactation consultant, She had me hold him skin to skin and he got latched i right away. It took a while to get him to do with without her help, but the first time I got to bond with my baby was almost 24 hours after birth and holding him skin to skin and feeding him from my breast was such an amazing relief. Once my milk came in, his blood sugar stabilized and they were able to stop feeding formula and take him off the iv. We are going on a month now of exclusively breastfeeding. I pump in between feedings for a freezer supply so my husband can help feed. It is a lot of work but I love watching my sons face while he eats and I love knowing that I am providing him the nourishment he needs. It isn't at all what I expected it would be. And it still is a challenge but it is getting easier every day. So for anyone with the question I would say just try it for a month. It takes patience but it is so worth it in the end.

I'm fully breastfeeding my 8 week old and have from birth but I hate it. I really don't like it at all. I'm constantly wet through (high supply), sore if she missed a feed or is late for a feed, milk sprays all over the place when I get my let down, she prefers one side and hates latching onto the other side it's a constant battle, at nights from 6pm onwards she constantly feeds every hour to 30-40 mins, I have to time my trips out because I don't feel comfy feeding outside in public, I can't do as much for my 4 year old because I'm stuck in one position feeding. I formula fed my first and found that so much easier.

But I stick to it because I know it's best for my baby nutrition wise.

We are about to hit a year of exclusive breastfeeding! I can count on one hand how many times she's ever spit up or been sick-fully attribute that to being breastfed! I invested in a good pump and have managed great thus far! It gets easier and more second nature everyday! It's definitely worth it!

Breast fed for 2 months until I had to go back to work, now formula feedin during the day while I'm away, and breast feeding at night when I'm home for as long as my supply sticks around.

I breastfeed, my son is 2.5 months and around 16lbs. BIG BOY. I have formula as back up just in case, you never know but I plan on stopping breastfeeding around 6 months....maybe..sorry so many pictures...I can't get over how cute them rolls are ♡

I breastfeed. I wanted a natural childbirth, which didn't happen. I was induced and after 26 hours it became a c section. I REALLY wanted to breastfeed my baby.  My baby was born so full of painkiller drugs that he couldn't suck or latch. I syringe fed him for 2 days in the hospital with nurses trying to help me get him to latch and 2 LC nurse visits during the two days. On the 2nd night a nurse told me to give it up, I can't syringe feed forever and I need to give him a bottle. I gave up and called my mom and asked for her to buy a bottle. That morning she arrived with the bottle and during the LC visit my baby latched and sucked. It was amazing. My milk came in and we had a very difficult time. When I left the hospital I could only get him to latch on my left side so I pumped on my right. After 3 more visits with the LC after I left the hospital he was able to latch on both sides. I went back to work when he was 8 weeks old and was able to pump enough( paced feeding, look it up in YouTube if he wasn't pace fed I wouldn't have been able to produce enough). Yes breast is best but it's a lot of work. My guy is almost 5 months, 16lbs and 10oz and I have to turn the light on in the middle of the night to help him latch but it is so rewarding. I love breastfeeding and I am so happy I stayed with it. LCs are amazing and insurance covers them and free pumps as well.

My little one is two weeks old today. She lost 11% of her birth weight and dipped below 6lbs, but before adding formula my pediatrician and lactation consultant had me pump after every feed and syring feed her my breast milk. My supply is not a problem, I have a sleepy eater. At 12 days she had gained back a little over half of what she lost, and we are hoping this next week she gains the rest. Pumping and syringe feeding after every feed is very time consuming but the end is in sight. And she is worth it!

I breastfeed my daughter she's 3 weeks old, and pump because my husband and family like to feed her and bond with her, I have a big family and I'm making sure everybody gets the time they need with her. I have my formula just in case even though I never used it, but it's always better to be prepared just in case
