Friendships: who should make the plans?

Hypothetically, if you moved interstate for work but your friends and family were still in your home town and you let your friends and family know 6-8 weeks in advance when you will be visiting home next, should it always be up to you to organise to see your friends or should your friends (who don't bother visiting you in your new town) be asking "would you like to do something?"

I only moved an hour away in September and I rarely see anyone anymore. I gave up trying to make plans. My dad lives next door, I have my daughter, fiancé, and baby on the way and they're all that matters to me anymore.

I would organize a big get together just to make sure I could see everyone, but after that I think both ladies should do the calling and planning. Luckily my mom is pretty good to host something every time I come home!

I have the same problem. I moved away years ago and no one has ever visited me and every single time I come to town every is like "come see me!!" I'm like "I just drove 10 hours from my town to yours, you can drive 10-30 mins to come see me now" as soon as I leave town I get a barrage of messages "Awww! I missed you! When will you be back so I can see you?" I'm like seriously?!?

I have a lot of friends who moved away after college and it's a little different with each of them. I don't feel like it is fair for me to make the plan and demand time with my friends when they could be spending time with their families. I put the dates on the calendar and wait for the invite!
