Ever driven with your Emergency brake on?

Of course I mean accidentally, but yesterday I let my hubby drive my car and he doesn't ever use an e brake when he parks. Well he didn't notice it was on until after he went from our apartment to Wal-Mart. A 17 minute drive... And he hit speeds of 70 at one point. My brakes are already scary to me, though the mechanic said they had about 7-8 months left. (A little less than half a pad). Bottom line, is my car okay ? Do I need to have it checked?
