Looks like ur using the medela pump? I was super confused too coz I just used the one that came with the pump when I bought it. Now that I'm buying a new piece for baby no2 I wasn't sure what size to get, if u go on their website u can see what the perfect fit should be, tho I do agree with everyone that it kinda hurts a bit either way anyway so I wouldn't worry too much. But check out the pics on their website and u'll see what's best for u.

Yes. Your nipples should not be sucked that far in, it will compress your boob too much and block the flow of milk. There should be an even fit around your areola and it will still hurt a little bit should not hurt a whole lot.

I would get a bigger size-I have big/thicker nipples too and if it's too smal it's like you loose circulation, the pressure is painful. True it's gonna hurt anyway it first but they shouldn't tingle/throb afterwards as though the bloods now flowing back in
