Purchasing to soon?

My sister thinks I need to wait until I'm father along to purchase baby items. But I don't make that much money so I choose to put items on layaway at babies r us and make payments on them. I'm 9w5d seen the heartbeat and the baby in US. Think it's to early to start purchasing the car seat/ stroller and crib?
