Anyone have this experience

I went to the dr Wednesday and he said I was dilated a little. I've been cramping pretty much all week. Well last night I went to the er because the cramps got worse and I had a tightening feeling. The dr told me that I was 1cm dilated and that since the contractions were 10 mins apart to not worry about it. He said if they got 3-4 a part in a 2 hour period to go back. That since it's my first that it takes a lot longer so I should be fine for those 2 hours. I'm 35 weeks so I know my baby will be ok but I'm wondering if someone else has experienced something like this and actually made it to term or is it this my body way of saying that she will be early?
