When do you find found out the sex of the baby ? I've heard different things lately

I had a scan at 16 weeks with my youngest and found out he was a boy xx

My dr does sonos at every appt, so I believe we found out between 12-16 weeks. He said he was 90% sure, and then we confirmed at 20 weeks with our mid pregnancy scan.
