What to say?

I'm 23 and married for a year. My husband and I are TTC our first baby, and anytime I mention our future as parents my mother always says "please tell me you aren't trying right now!" It's really dragging me down. We are more than ready and desperately want to start our family! What do I say to get my negative mother to stop and just let us be!!

Maybe ask her why she says things like this? Don't forget you are her baby, no matter how old you get. So she could well have some concerns or reservations about you having children 'right now' as she questions. You're both adults so there is no reason the two of you can't sit down and have a discussion about it. I'm sure she only wants good things for you. Until you talk to her you'll never know

Tell her that you and your hubby want a baby and that it takes a healthy couple up the one year to conceive so you are starting now. You are not lieing to her and if you get pregnant early then it's no big shock to her.

Well it's none of her business. Just say, "Yes I am. So what?" Your mom can be with you during your pregnancy as long as she's supportive. Nobody likes a Negative Nancy.

My Mother in Law was kind of the same way. Not as forward about it. I just told her, "well we aren't trying but not preventing it. If it happens, it happens." She was fine with that answer. And now that I'm pregnant, she couldn't be happier.
