No baby shower...is a registry still okay?

I live thousands of miles away from family (military). I don't have any close friends in the area we live so pretty much the only friends I have are coworkers. So I'm having a hard time deciding if I should even have a shower, which of course, I would have to throw myself. Is it tacky sending out info about my registry without having a shower? Thanks.

I'm not having a shower and I did a registery at babies r us. If family chooses to buy things from it I'll definitely take them but I mainly did the registry for the points and promotions they had to give coupons to finish buying stuff later. I plan on buying everything off of my own registry though lol

Maybe do an e-shower? I recently had a jamberry party on FB and it worked great. You can post your registery there and invite all your friends and family. Maybe even post some online games and mail whoever wins a small prize. We played bingo on there and it worked great. I'm sure you could do a bunch of the standard baby shower games on there

Yes, considering your circumstances. But I wouldn't send the invites myself, I'd have a friend or relative send the invite (to purchase gifts off your registry) to honor you. I definitely wouldn't send it myself.

I don't think it's tacky. I think it's helpful to your friends. Most people feel better getting you something you actually need...

I don't think it would be tacky in your situation,  if your family knows your far away for a good reason they shouldn't mind sending the baby a gift..

It's not tacky to send out shower invitations yourself. I'm also a military spouse and sent out my own baby shower invitations. It's a different world being military and your family and friends will understand :)

It's worth it for the discount to "fulfill" your registers after your shower date (most places give 10%) off everything in your registry if it wasn't purchased for you yet. We added all our big ticket items to our registry for this exact reason!

Girl, we are in the same position. My husband and I are both military, and I don't think I could invite coworkers either, because I'm the only girl lol
