He had enough respect to tell me he wanted to date someone else (before physically acting on his feelings) and wanted an open relationship. So I broke up with him, said I wanted someone that wanted me and only me. Got back together a few months later, dated for years and now we've been married two years. I think a huge key was that he was upfront and honest when he started falling for a mutual friend of ours, it REALLY hurt at the time but I can't imagine how it would have felt if he had cheated. I think exes only work if the relationship was good and the break up was healthy.

My partner and I met in August. We started dating the following year in March. I knew very early into us dating that I would marry him, it was just a gut feeling....We were happy until I met his friend who's a woman and she immediately began stirring the pot - even though she was already engaged to her long time partner and pregnant!! And no, she didn't want him but she liked the fact that whenever she cried wolf, he would give her money and I put a stop to that. So we fought about her on a monthly basis and eventually in December, nine months together, he left me. He said it was because he couldn't handle the fighting but I always felt like he chose his friends over me. So we broke up but agreed that we'd have a stand down period for three months before telling our families and our church of this split. The three months was to be really sure that we couldn't fix things before telling everyone and I had told him, I'll wait for three months to see if this can be fixed, then I'm moving on. I left him alone and immediately began a 40day spiritual challenge to be in close prayer with God. I wanted to understand what God wanted me to learn from this and while my faith and my relationship with God was strengthening, I was watching the man I love fall far from God and the church in general. The journey I was on with God was great but it hurt to watch my ex - whom I still felt like I was ment to be with, go back to his old life of being with his friends 24/7 and not caring about anything else. How he happy he must of been feeling to now be able to get as drunk as he liked and be with friends everyday without having to answer to a grumpy girlfriend! Well that's what I thought anyway. Almost two months later, at the end of January, we reconciled. He'd realized friends weren't worth loosing the people you love over. 1.5years.... we are still going strong. I guess my gut instinct wasn't wrong after all!

We had ended it mutually after about 6 months, but still talked every day. Eventually we decided to get back together after discussing it for a long time. Now we've been engaged for a year, but putting the wedding off another year because we are expecting a little boy!

I still get flashbacks 3 years later & I fucking hate it.
His dad committed suicide in Sept 2012 and we broke up in May 2012, and I was really close with his dad. I'm more upset at the fact that his dad did what he did rather than my ex. 
But I'll never ever go back to that piece of shit. Js.

I've never gone back the only one I ever consider going back with  . On out date we went to the movies . And I told him the only way I would go with him is if my best friend could come. Welp .that ended tragically . I went to the bath room . Came back and he was kissing her .ya I was mad at both of them . I never seen him again after that me and her had a fall out but we're still best friends today . She never crossed me again . Been friend 18 years but that's my lesson learned . Yup never again .
