Piercing babies ears debate

Do you think its okay to pierce a babies ears? Whether it be when they are newborns or a couple of months old. Or do you think that parents should wait until they are old enough to decide for themselves if they want their ears pierced? I personally won't be piercing my daughter's ears until she decides she wants to at whatever age that may be.
