Post-baby shower?

Hi ladies. Is anyone else having a post-baby shower? My mother in law has offered to host with her family and friends but wants to have it after the baby is born. Unfortunately, my mom passed away so it's an extremely nice offer but not what I want. Since she isn't willing to budge, I'm looking for the positives in it all.

Can you share your experience with having a shower after baby is born? When did you have it, etc?

I wouldnt have a post baby shower for the simple fact that i would not want that many people around my baby so soon! I would throw my own baby shower if my MIL wanted to try to bully me into something I didnt want.

I'm in the same boat my mom passed away and my MIL did not offer to throw a shower - which I don't mind bc her and i are so opposite and she can't afford to anyway. Throwing my own and friends are helping out. Maybe suggest your mil to organize a meal train so ppl can come visit but you aren't overwhelmed with it all in one day...

I haven't had one but I know people who have. they called it a sip and see. Maybe have it two weeks to one month after baby is born. Newborns are small and u don't want all those germy (however well meaning) people around ☺️☺️☺️.

My mom is hosting a sip and see for baby and I. It's perfect for us, she lives out of town, so it's a chance for family and friends to meet the baby. I like that it's a more casual environment, no games and people can come and go.

I'm not but I'm kind of in the same boat. My mom passed away but my MIL hasn't offered to throw me a shower, neither has anyone else really, so I'm throwing my own. My sister is officially throwing it but she'll be deployed until right before so I'm doing it all myself. All my close friends just had babies so they're too busy to do it so it's up to me. Maybe you could throw your own beforehand if you don't have anyone else that can and then have the one with your MIL after? Good luck, it's definitely a little frustrating/stressful.

We are doing a sip and see. It's my second baby and I want it to be less about presents (we don't need much) and more about celebrating me and my new baby. I think we'll do it around 6 weeks post baby

I had one with my first. It wasn't planned that way but she came early. It was great as far as the shower goes but it was at a time that I didn't feel like being a round people. I was still sore, bleeding, and super tired. I would have a talk with her about you wanting it before. Also babies aren't supposed to be exposed to a lot of people at first. If she still doesn't want to budge talk to your friends see if any of them are interested in hosting one for you before the baby is born.

My mom is hosting a meet the baby party since this baby is my second. My first is now 6 yrs old so my family thought it would even nice to have something without being judged. A lot of people judge if you have a second baby shower regardless of age difference. This way friends and family can come meet the baby, miggle, have some food and leave when they want. No one is obligated to bring gifts this way either.
