Crib or pack n play?

Question

When baby is born are you putting baby to sleep in a crib or pack n play? I'm having trouble deciding between the two. On one hand, I'd like to just have a crib from the start so there's no transitioning baby from pack n play to a crib and also to save money instead of purchasing two different things. On the other hand, my fiance and baby's father is saying cribs aren't safe because of the railings (even though I plan on buying a bumper for that). I'm still leaning more towards a crib but I thought I'd ask for other people's opinions.

Cribs are the safest option, WITHOUT bumpers.

Please don't use a bumper unless you use the mesh breathable ones! If you plan to breastfeed, I would do a bassinet or pack-n-play in your room and then transition to a crib in baby's own room when they start sleeping for longer stretches.

We just got the pack and play for now due to limited funds and space. Hopefully by the time we save up the money for a crib, we will also be in a larger place.

Alright this might seem stupid but this is what we are doing we are having a bassinet down stairs....where I'll probably be most of the time the first few weeks I am also get a pack n play that has a higher place to sleep for when I am able to get up  and down the stairs easier and I'll also have a crib in her roo for when I am comfortable putting her in it by herself

I have used a breathable bumper for my kids, found ours at babies r us, a mini crib, which is like a small pack n play for my room for first two months. All napping during day was done in their crib so they got used to both.

I'm thinking of getting all three. Crib, pack and play and a bassinet. Bassinet for the fourth trimester - I can keep the baby right beside my bed, but it'll only be good to use until the baby gets to be 25 lbs. Then transition to crib once he starts sleeping longer stretches. And a pack and play for when he visits grandmas or we vacation so he can have somewhere to sleep. This is our first and we plan on having more so it'll be an investment.

I would say bassinet if you're not going with crib or as an alternative-those pack n plays are not made as a sleeping site; the padding, support and structure is not high enough quality for any child to use as a sleeping site.

I also agree the less transitioning the better/easier, and true to the prev point made: babies like tighter sleeping areas bc they didn't have a lot of room in the womb, but you can simulate that yourself in the crib. Also, there are mesh bumpers you can purchase so if their face does get pressed against the bumper, they can still breathe. The other concern with no bumper at all is limbs getting caught in the rails-a bit more common as they get bigger, but even so possible as infants.
