Group b strep?

Why don't they test for this in the UK? And should I be worried about this?:(

I think if it's not been mentioned there's probably a reason why ... For example we don't see it as much here or something... Best thing is 1. Don't go googling you'll only stress your self out 2. Talk to your midwife that's what she's there for she'll be able to tell you

They should give every pregnant women this test i had it and only tested because i had a bleed at 7 months had to be put on antibotic drip in labour if your worried ask your midwife for the test n if she says no keep asking x

A bit late to the convo! I imagine there's a reason they don't. They seem to do a lot of 'extras' in the U.S., where most posters are from, perhaps because they are paying privately or it depends what level of health insurance you have. There also seems to be a lot less midwife led delivery, more scans and much earlier inductions. I think it's just different medical practice to be honest.

You can get a home kit which you send off for £30. This will give you the results and if positive you and baby will automatically get antibotics as midwife gets your results

I discovered I have strep b by accident from another swab, luckily! Shame they don't routinely test, sign the petition. Don't be worried about it, all should be okay. x

I asked my mw about this. This bacteria is in most if us and seems to be coming and going, also it lives in "groups" which are moving around so even if a swab today is negative it could be positive next week taken from the same vaginal location. Also, she said it's very easy to see if the newborn got it from us the signs are clear and they start antibiotics then.
