Sex: Time VS Age

I am a young teen who has been in love with this guy for a long time. 8 years (nearly 9) to be exact. We are just now beginning to get serious (we were not dating those 8 years, it was a one sided love) and have discussed sex. I wanted to hear opinions on if the age of a teen matters when they're going to loose their virginity to someone they've loved that long.
