Whys the difference between being intimate and sex?

To me, sex is just a physical act.
Intimacy adds more of an emotional relationship to the mix.

To me it kinda crosses over slightly. Intimacy for us is like cuddling up. Kissing. Date night. All that stuff. Some nights we have more intimate sex. Like loads of touching kissing cuddling ect. Some nights we have crazy passionate ripping each others clothes off sex. It kinda means different things to different people
