Dumb question maybe?

I'm a FTM and I'm looking at car seats and I wanted to know if all car seats detach from the base and also serve as a carrier? Or are some strictly car seats?

Convertible car seats usually stay in the car, infant car seats usually have an optional base (sometimes included) where it is removable.

I think some detach and others don't. I thought it was something new and was so amazed by it then my husband rained on my parade and "some do and some don't. Just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend" ....thanks😒 I was thinking it was the coolest thing since sliced bread or something lol

Most do detach from the base. Mine did I didn't even use my base because I have an older car so the base wouldnt attach properly in my car.

I BELIEVE it depends on the age of the child in the car seat and type.  My husbands car seats (in his car) are not like the ones in my car which will detach and come with a base.  We only did that because we use my car as the family car (church, vacations, doctors appointment etc.)  and his is the one when we use for traveling to family members or friends' house, where we know the baby has all of their needed items ie (cribs, bassinets, car seats, strollers... Etc).  It truly is completely up to you which one you decide to choose.

You can use anything you want as a carrier. Unless you get one of those forever car seats.
