Its good to be on it even if you aren't sexually active because you never know when you will start having sex. And you have a higher risk of getting pregnant for about the first 2 weeks when you start taking it.

Hormonal birth control can do all kinds of things: regulate periods, help with pcos, regulate ovarian cysts, decrease acne, control debilitating cramps. Even if the only reason for taking the pills is to prevent pregnancy, taking them before becoming sexually active lets you make that decision when you're ready without the added worry.
