Have you had an HSG?

Have any of you ladies had an HSG done? I will be having one soon and I have no idea what to expect....

It's uncomfortable so I took some Advil or Tylenol about 45 mins beforehand. Idk if they give you anything for pain with it where you are but they don't here. Luckily it's a really short test. I just kept telling myself, "you can do anything for a short time!" My tubes ended up being fine so I can't speak to what a blocked tube is like. Bring a pad with you because you will leak dye and maybe spot for at least the rest of that day. I stayed home from work that day and just rested. I felt sore and bloated and had a headache that evening. The bloated feeling lasted a couple days.

Like I said...it's uncomfortable! But it's not that bad. Try and stay calm (haha easier said than done, I know!) You will be just fine I'm sure!

Take pain medication first.

They made me remove everything from the waist down, then transported me to the surgery room.

Feet in stirrups. They covered me with a heated blanket. Then a huge spotlight on my lady goods.

Speculum was inserted, then the cath was put into my cervix. The pain was pinchy, and hard to localize. You won't know it's coming from your cervix if that makes sense. It just pinches all in there.

When they started with the dye it felt like menstrual cramping. They filled up my uterus and tubes as much as they could, but I had no blockage. At this point I felt faint. The took X-rays after they were done with the fluid.

No pain while they were removing the cath or speculum.

I had a rush of liquid when I stood up. Pain progressively worsened as the day went on. I was hurting, and I have a great pain tolerance. I play roller derby, which means I get beat up for fun, and I have a natural birth under my belt.

Good news is I got pregnant right after the procedure, and we were trying for 5 years. It truly had to be the reason we conceived.

I had one done today! Wasn't awful, the anxiety is the worst part. It uncomfortable when they put the liquid in, but after that it isn't as bad. Take ibuprofen and be prepared to want to curl up and nap after!

It wasn't bad at all. I took an Advil an hour before as instructed by my RE. The period 3 weeks later was horrendous though!!!

Take some ibuprofen or Advil about 30 minutes prior to the procedure. I was expecting the worse and had been told it was awful but it really wasn't that bad. It is uncomfortable and you feel some pinching and cramping but nothing unbearable. Also, expect some bleeding afterwards so you may want to take some pads with you, or they can give you some after the procedure. Good luck!

I had one and only had minimal cramping like a period cramp during it. It wasn't bad at all!

It was the worst pain of my life ever and you couldn't pay me enough to do it again. BUT I've been told it's very rare to experience that much pain. The doctor was shocked and felt so bad for me! Lol. It was awful. I was 34 and almost never ovulated so I think I was really blocked up. Plus it took 3 doctors to be able to get the needle into my cervix because the opening is so small. Weird. Take some pain meds!!! Good luck!!!!

I have & I took the recommended pain killers prior to it. My results showed one blocked tube which was very painful as they tried to flush it clear. I was in for about an hour which I assume was due to the blocked tube  as they kept trying to clear it.
On the up side even with my blocked tube I've still managed to get pregnant 4 times in the last two years. (Sadly all ended in MC but at least I know I can)

I have. The procedure is relatively quick. I experienced a fair amount of pain when my Gyno injected the dye, but others say it wasn't bad. Definitely take some Aleve or your OTC pain med of choice an hour before. I also felt generally uncomfortable afterward. My tummy and insides just felt a little out of sorts. That lasted a few hours. Thankfully, my results were fantastic, and I'm sure yours will be, too!!
