How early is to early for hpt?

I'm 5 dpo. How early is to early to test?

The earliest to test would be 10dpo for possible faint lines. Some even get faint lines on 9dpo like I did.

I'd wait. There's nothing worse than seeing that BFN when you're hoping for your BFP. Waiting those few days is so hard, but it's better than the discouraging feeling of only seeing one line.

I usually wait until my period is late. The problem with early detection tests is they can pick up a chemical pregnancy as well. You get all excited seeing the positive sign and then AF appears and then you're disappointed. That being said. I got my first positive test with my first when I was only 3 1/2 weeks pregnant. My period wouldn't have started for another 4 or 5 days.
