Epidural when should you get it ?

I was just wondering when they give you the epidural ? I am not interested in comments about not getting it I respect your birth plan please respect mine !

Before you get pregnant. Lol! Just kidding. It's kind of up to you, I waited until I felt I needed it, some women get it as soon as they get to the hospital. It all depends on how you feel the pain tolerance is going for you personally. Just remember that when you get it you will no longer be able to get up and walk around, they'll insert a catheter, and you won't be able to feel anything really. Some women delay it for those reasons, especially if you end up having to get induced, as walking can help you progress. You'll know when it's right for you, it's all very dependent on how things are going for your particular birth. Good luck, and don't let anybody shit on you for choosing an epidural.

I got mine after my doc broke my water. I had been in labor for 11 hours at that point. After he broke my water, it got just too painful. I didn't have her for another 9 hours, so I got it again, or more, or however you say it.

I would add that if you know you want one don't wait too long. If you're in a bigger hospital there may be a wait. When I decided I wanted one they told me there were 5 people ahead of me. So I waited another hour and a half and it was awful!!

Instructor from my birthing class said best to wait until "active" labor which is between 4-6 cm. I'm going to get it when I can't handle the pain anymore!! 😆

My dr said they'd give it to me anytime, but would prefer I'm over 3cm dialated first. But they'll give it at 10cm if I want it! So I'll probably get it at 3-4cm! I've had friends that didn't progress before epidural bc they weren't relaxed and friends that it slowed down their progression so it's 50/50! Good luck to you!

With mine I wanted to wait until I couldn't take it anymore... Kind of a mistake... The anesthesia provider was with another patient, and I had to wait... Ugh agony. With my third I asked for it as soon as I felt moderately uncomfortable.... And I am going to do that again..

Mine didn't wear off because I had a button to push when I felt I needed more relief. You might get one too!

It's really up to you. I'd say get it when the pain becomes to intolerable for you to handle it.

I was told that a lot of hospitals will wait until at least 4-5cm.
From what I've heard, some don't get it till a little later because pain doesn't pick up till a little later.
