Words of encouragement?

I'm posting this anonymously because I'm weird (a big baby) about people knowing personal things about me (even in "real" life).
I'm having a hard time this week emotionally. For some reason, my brain thought now would be a good time to bring up painful memories and resentments from my childhood / adolescence.
I didn't exactly win the childhood jackpot growing up, but, for the most part, I turned out okay. Generally, I'm able to put things behind me and live my life. Sometimes, however, I have a harder time than others. I know that I should go to a therapist or psychologist to try to work through these things, but taking that first step is scary, especially with no help and seeming discouragement from my doctor. 
Basically, I'm just needing to get some encouragement to take the first step... Any advice is more than welcome, too! Sorry for the severe lack of information and simultaneous novel.
