PCOS ????

Question

So I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS , after 6 rounds of clomid and TTC for two years . Would anybody be able to explain it to me a little better . I don't mean to sound unintelligent but the when the doc was explaining I was still stuck on PCOS so I didn't really hear .

My doctor put me on a no carb diet which was a big help. We ended up conceiving after 1 round of IVF. The added benefit was that I lost 50 pounds and I had virtually no pain between periods and fewer cysts. My cholesterol levels also normalized.

I have PCOS, my doc explained to me that in order to produce an egg you need a certain level of hormone to boost it's growth and help it along the way, for me I was lacking that hormone so I wasn't producing any eggs, every so often my body might produce a little bit of the hormone but not enough, an egg would start but eventually would "die" and become a cyst - in order for ovulation to be successful a follicle must grow to around 18mm to be deemed healthy enough to sustain pregnancy, i would be lucky to get to 9mm before they would just turn into cysts, I was given clomid which tricks your brain into producing more of the good egg hormone, for me it more that trebled my hormone level meaning my eggs were getting to 14mm or 16mm but still not quite the 18mm needed for a healthy pregnancy, this is when the doc talked about increasing the clomid to 100mg from 50mg but on my last 50mg cycle I made 2 follicles one at 18mm and another at 9mm, the 18mm released and I got pregnant, the 9mm turned into a cyst and joined the hundreds of other failed eggs on my ovaries since ovulation began for me, Pcos just means, many cysts on ovaries, my story says a little about how my many cysts got there, I hope this has helped a little x x
