Update on my daughter's MRI!
I'm sorry, I know this doesn't belong here, but I can't find the post where I was talk to some ladies in a comment about my daughter's MRI yesterday and not I can find it. I understand if this is deleted.
She has had a shunt for 11 years now (placed at 5 months). She has hydrocephalus and when the ventric/vp shunt was originally placed her cerebral spinal fluid pressure in her brain was at 40...normal is 0-5. It saved her life. Shunts are scary though because most fail, get clogged, and get infections. They say making one year is pretty good, 3 is better and 5 is amazing. You have to constantly be aware of symptoms and possible issues like lethargy, sunset eyes, pupils dilating unevenly, headaches.... Every time she was sick, they wanted to tap it and check for infections (which raises the risk... I've never let them). Any time we went the the ER, shunt issues are ruled out first... With shunt series x-rays and sometimes spinal taps. We've been so lucky that after 11 years, her shunt has stayed healthy.
Well, her MRI (which she handled like a champ with no sedation) was perfect (as far as the shunt goes)! She has had no change for over 7 years and the doctor now believes that she may not even need it anymore! We're leaving it in because the risks of taking it out are much more dangerous than just leaving it. But this, this news is amazing!!!!! Sorry, I wanted to share with some of the ladies who were asking yesterday. Feel free to ask any questions and thanks for the support yesterday!
