Why do you shave Hair on vagina

Hey ladies. I grew up in an Italian family and I was always told off when I wanted to wax any part of my body. I'm not very hairy, just normal. Nowadays I am shocked when I hear women actually shave all their lady parts. In the environment where I grew up it is considered inconceivable...like why would you cut your natural femininity to look like a baby? I feel awkward now if I sleep with a guy because I might think they expect me to be bald down there but for me it looks ugly! What do you think?
