When to get him tested

Question

I've been off birth control for about a year (not being super careful) and we've been actively TTC for about 3 months. I've gone off all medication, cleaned up my diet, stopped drinking coffee and alcohol and am taking prenatals. I've also had a pre-conception appointment where my dr says and I'm healthy and should have no issues getting pregnant.

At what point do I suggest my husband gets checked out? Another year? 6 months?

Hmm better now than never. A year is a long time. If something really is wrong on his side would you really want to wait another year or so to find out? If you're ovulating every month it really shouldn't be taking that long

If your thinking about it now, just get him tested now, it won't hurt and only fair seeing as you e been tested. After all it takes 2 to make a baby! If anything it will just put your mind at ease as I sure it's all normal and 3 months is not a long time Ttc at all.

After a year of actively TTC, 6 months if you're over 35.

I would wait until the one year mark. However, i imagine a semen analysis is probably alot cheaper than female fertility testing, so you could probably afford to pay out of pocket for that now if you wanted. I mean, i think all they do is have someone look at it under a microscope, observe motility, and do a count. Not like females where i imagine there's needles to get a blood sample, and ultrasounds which aren't cheap, and a doc visit to read & discuss results. A guy seems like it's just "go put a sample in this cup, we will send it to a lab, you'll get results, & if you need help reading results you can choose to make a doc appt". Lol, i could be completely wrong, but i think a semen analysis runs $50-100 without insurance.

Um I would wait for at least 8 monthes. The first three times could just be mishaps or too much sex. I feel like if u tell him it might be him it will be a blow to his self esteem.  So I would wait until at least 8 monthes so it doesn't seem like ur blaming him.
