Unusual periods?

I didn't get my first period until i Was almost 17 years old, and it was never regular. I went on bc at 19 and was on it until almost a year ago. I'm 31 now, and stopped taking any form of bc for a number of reasons. This was back in September. I STILL don't have a normal period. It started out as every month, then every 2 months, 3 months, and so on. My obgyn said it's normal. Does anyone experience a period that's not normal like this? Have you asked your obgyn about it,and if so what did they say?
