What is your dress size?

I read somewhere that the average american woman wears a size 16 (also my size) - but I have a hell of a time finding clothing in conventional stores (Banana Republic, GAP, Ann Taylor...so on.) And forget about the fancy boutiques - the ones near me in NYC never go above a size 10.

Why do you think that US stores do this? And if you are size 16 and above - how do you feel about having to shop in speciality sections of department stores with weird names like "Macy Woman"? Or do you shop mainly online?
