Customary to give gift to doctor?

I'm wondering if it's a good idea or if it's customary to give your doctor and staff a gift after helping you through your pregnancy/delivery? Anyone have done this? What do you give?

It's not customary to give gifts to your doctors, and in some places it's not permitted. As a healthcare provider, the best thing I've received from my patients is heartfelt thank you notes. I keep them in a folder at work and take them out when I'm having a bad day.

If you feel that you were exceptionally well taken care of, it's also appreciated when you send a letter to the administration so that they know the patients appreciate our work as well.

They should give you a gift for that income you're generating them. Seriously it usually works that way. You have other options, you chose them, they say thank you... Buuut they don't. 
Maybe if they save you or your child's life I'd see it as an exception but birth is momma work. Hardly anyone else besides the parter has to put in effort.

I know my OB gets tons of gifts from patients. I'm planning on asking him what his favorite charity is and making a donation in his honor.

I brought flowers and a card to the midwife practice at my 2 week postpartum visit. I wanted to show my appreciation but didn't want to be awkward. I figured everyone in the office would enjoy flowers and I just wrote a card thanking the midwife that delivered my baby for providing such great care and support during my pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

A lot of OBGYN Drs have cards and photos of the babies they deliver hung in their offices. They appreciate small gestures.

We just brought cookies to the nurses on the mother/baby floor they took care of us during our stay

I always send my dr a birth announcement and a Christmas card every year. She loves it.
