So I've got a concerning topic: Facebook name "authenticity"

Lately my SO and I have been receiving badgering messages from facebook asking for some ID to prove our names are real. Obviously, we don't feel like they need our IDs. I'm certain many others feel this way too. I googled it a little and apparently it's so "people to find you easier" -who it does not say. I'm thinking employers and creepers of course. Anyone you wouldn't want to find you.

Basically, they pester you for a while then ultimately won't let you use the account because you won't show them ID. (Which means you can't delete the account if yo wanted to because you can't use it.) Or that's our experience. My transgender wife doesn't have any ID with under her female name. While I just like to avoid the bad people of my past, so I don't use my name. I'm positive there's many other scenarios that can be conflicting.

So I attempted to delete the account I have had for years, only to be told first: "people won't be able to find you" and other things that try to guilt you into staying a member -normal stuff on many sites. Second: it may take up to 90 days to delete everything like photos, posts, so on... Third: I learned that you can only deactivate your account, meaning it isn't deleted. I figured this out last when it told me the account would be "held" and I could come back any time I wanted. Perplexed, I tried logging into a another profile that had been deleted (something I had made to teach my elderly dad about Facebook, which he ended up not wanting). Well, guess what? It was still there! I tried to delete it last year around August! And guess what pops up shortly after I log on? "We need your ID..." ugh**!

This is all infuriating because Facebook is a easy way connect, and I have a lot of useful links to the schools/sale sites/support groups etc... it's not a necessity of course, it's just very helpful. Just not helpful enough that we're forking over our licenses. Rediculious! God knows what they're doing with that information!

What do you think about Facebooks photo recognition? It's need for real names? And so on...?
