Winter Jacket for baby???

Question

I am due at the end of September and don't know if I should buy baby a winter jacket or just plan on keeping extra blankets for him and car seat cover. What are you ladies planning on doing?

No need for a winter coat. They aren't even recommended for use in car seats due to safety reasons. Just buy a car seat cover or bundle me and take the baby in and out of the cold in a car seat.

My first was born in December and we never had a jacket on her( ok maybe once). We always kept her nice and warm with blankets. It's safer in the car seat and I would think more comfortable for baby :)

I didn't bother with a jacket until they were old enough to not be carried around in the baby carrier. They shouldn't really wear a jacket in the carrier since the straps should be close to their body. It was easier to wrap extra blankets around them and add a hat.

Im doing a carseat cover with warm suits (like thick footed and hooded sleepers) for winter that can easily be taken off when we get inside warm houses

I am planning on warm outfits, blankets and a carrier cover. If I feel that isn't appropriate then I'll buy a winter coat suit. I'm a FTM so trial and error what's going to happen....

I have a 4.5yo and live in the northeast. While I will take precautions to keep baby inside during the occasional -20* weather. Typically we will all be out so for in and out of the car I have a car seat boot (shower cap style cover) and a hot water bottle. We have a Columbia fleece and snowsuit set, and then heavy, thick sweaters and jumpsuits (none of those for the car of course!) we know the chances of needing it is high bc we have another child who likes to play outside. If he were our first we probably wouldn't have gotten the snowsuit etc

I don't think I'll be going out much In the Chicago winters to do outdoorsy stuff. We probably won't buy one. Just thick blankets.

I'm not using a winter coat/snowsuit for the car seat but if we are out for example going sledding with our 6 year old, I'm definitely gonna use one for those types of things. Santa parades, walks, anything outdoors I'll be using one so yes I think you should invest in one, even if it's used

I'm due at the end of September too. I was given a baby snow suit I guess you call it. But now that I live in Tennessee I'm not sure if I'll be needing it right away.
