Hubby Upset there's No Spending Money

Okay, so I handle our money and bills; hubby has no concept of good finances. We've had this arrangement for years.

Well, the past couple months we've fallen on some hard financial times. Namely, he got really sick with pneumonia and then he had dental surgery; both events kept him out of work for weeks at a time and there was no PTO. So my paychecks had to cover where they could, but it wasn't enough. We turned to credit cards and over drafting our accounts.

Well, with this last check ive finally managed to get our finances on the right track. I paid off negative accounts, and began payments again to the credit cards. The kitchen is finally stocked with food and there's gas in both our vehicles. Bills that were behind are now current. I'm pleased and happy with how we've caught up. Well, not hubby.

He's upset there's no extra money for him to go out and buy cigarettes, candy, and Red Bull. He buys this combination daily at $20-25/day. During our rough patch we were charging our cards for these purchases, and some of the negative accounts were due to these frivolous purchases on a repeated basis.

Anyway, so there's no extra spending cash and the credit cards are maxed from our rough patch, and he's upset he can't go out for his cigarettes and Red Bull. Now, we are only broke until Thursday when I get paid again, so it's a temporary situation. I tried to tell him it's temporary and to think about all that is paid off and how we are current. He doesn't care. He's currently scouring the house looking for loose change.

Sigh. I don't know what to make of it. No one needs 3 red bull per day, a candy stash. I kinda get the cigarettes given nicotine addiction, but hubby also says he wants to quit so hey maybe this is a good time to try quitting. Why can't he be happy that the big things are paid, that the car notes are paid, and bills aren't late anymore?? We are doing fine when you look at the big picture, but hubby can't (or won't ) see it.
