Infant vaccines...?

In my hospital (we are in Istanbul), they routinely give infants a Vitamin K shot and Hep B shot before leaving the hospital. 
I've been trying to read up on hepB for babies but everything is so strongly biased one way or the other. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts/ articles/ experiences? I think this is something they do in America too, but neither of my sisters chose to get it. Hmph.

Hep B can turn chronic. It's a virus that stays in your baby's blood for their entire life as it's a virus. It can lead to scarring of the liver and possibly even cancers.

This is difficult to tell but...I feel it's worth sharing...so it's based on my own personal experience...I realize vaccines are very controversial nowadays but feel that it's inportant to share this..so please don't criticize...it's a health battle I am dealing with everyday.

I was born in another country where my mother did not vaccinate me because Hep B vaccines didn't exist and the virus was prevalent in that country. I don't know who my biological mom is but I know she had Hep B. I was adopted by a family into the U.S. and my new family had me vaccinated later on in life (9 yrs old). I was never checked. I got pregnant at the age of 27 with my first where they tested me for HEP B. I got a call from US Health adept saying I had tested positive for Hep B. My baby HAD to get the vaccine as required by the state I live in. There was a VERY good chance the baby would come in contact with my blood during birth and then she would have Hep B for life. There's no cure for it and there's only treatments to suppress it. So I came in contact with my mother's blood and got it.

Whether you decide to give it or not, the choice is up to you. But if your child came in contact with someone's blood who has it...there is a chance it will lead to worse conditions or ultimately death.

I have to get checked often to make sure my viral DNA copies don't get out of control and constantly need to be checked to make sure it doesn't get worse.

I am terrified for my life that I will wake up and find out my hep B is worse. But at least I know that my two children are safe from it...unlike my mother who could not protect me from it.

We are opting out until her first doctor visit, where she will be getting it. I just don't think she needs it for her first few days of life. It's a personal choice, though.

They do give the hep b shot in the hospital. Hep b is actually required where I live in order for the baby to go to daycare and school, so my child will be getting it. I am debating getting it in the hospital versus waiting a few weeks. The pediatricians I spoke with said it was fine either way since the chance for exposure is pretty low, but if baby somehow contracts it prior to the vaccination, it will very likely cause liver failure.  Since I have a family meet with hep b, I'm leaning towards doing it in the hospital to avoid any potential risk.

Vitamin k is for blood clotting. It's pretty minor. Hep b is something I opted out of when my son was born and I went ahead and gave it to him a week or two later at his check ups. The story below I read was pretty convincing though. I might opt out of it at first again but I will make sure this baby gets it later.

Even if your child isn't at high risk for exsposure, will your child be contact with other children? Even a bite from an infected child could pass hep b on. Once infected with hep b the consequences are quite dire.

Do you have hep a? Do any family members have hep a? Are you an interveinous drug user? Have you hav  multiple sexual partners during your pregnacy? If you answered no, you probably don't need to give your baby hep A.

Vitamin K is important in blood clotting this has great evidence based research on why vitamin k should be given at birth or near birth. Also you can give oral vitamin K.

We will get vitamin K but not hep B.  At his 2 month appointment he will get that shot.  There is no point in my opinion to get it at a few days old when his body is getting used to the outside world.
