Ttc while on medicade??

Question

So me and a good friend are both ttc. We havent been actively trying as long as her and her husband have. We are lucky enough to have great ins from my husbands work. But during a convo my friend mentioned that she is uninsured and planning on getting on medicade as soon as she gets pregnant. So that had me wondering if you can't afford ins should you be ttc? Personally if we didn't get the option we do through work I am not sure we could afford to pay more. So thoughts?? Should medicade matter since insurance is so unbelievably unrealistic now of days?

Insurance is crazy expensive now if you don't have a job that offers benefits. But if she's not already in Medicaid how does she know she'll qualify once pregnant?

I don't think it's bad and it's also no one's business how she goes about getting insurance whether it's state or not. Do you think she can't afford a baby? Also just for me i pay 400 for insurance crazy..

Medicaid is a federal program, but if you can qualify depends on state regulations.

I don't think it's bad. If she and her SO are working, it should be fine. Insurance is freaking sky high! When I was at my other job, I worked 50 hrs a week and I qualified for medicaid because my income was  too low, $1200 a month, and for some stupid reason I couldn't get insurance from my job. I didn't want to get fined, so I stayed on medicaid until I qualified for insurance at my new job. With the way the income requirements are, a lot more people qualify for medicaid, so a lot more people are on it. It's no big deal and nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't see a problem with it. If your spouses employer offers affordable solo coverage, but very unaffordable family coverage, then one person is getting hung out to dry there, and it's you. And because they offer affordable solo insurance, you can't get a subsidy on the exchange. So her only "affordable" option would be medicaid. As long as they aren't unemployed, or struggling to pay for food and a roof over their heads, I think it's fine.

Personally I don't begrudge anyone Medicaid if they can qualify for it. And I believe it should be available to every pregnant woman and every child under the age of eighteen regardless of 'eligibility.'

And I am of the mindset that ttc when you can't afford your current lifestyle is irresponsible.

But, in my judgement, I make exceptions for medical expenses. Medical care and insurance is horribly expensive and I find it hard to pass judgment when medical expenses would be the only thing holding someone back from ttc.
