Why is it customary to ask a pregnant lady how she's feeling?!

Question

I don't understand America's need to ask pregnant women how they are "feeling". Because there are multiple scenarios of how she's feeling and none of which she'd probably like to discuss w just anyone. 
1) sick all the time and wants to punch the next person she has to explain her morning sickness to because she was doing ok until u brought it up again! 
2) feels fine - and acting normal - so y r u even asking me? Do I look bad? Or u tell them ur not sick and they tell u about every pregnant person they know that was/is sick... It's like they are telling u how abnormal it is that u are not sick ..
3) feels ok but digestion is wacky - constipated, diarrhea, gassy, - none of which she wants to discuss with you
4) tired. So tired. Which means this conversation is draining my sparse energy - 
5) crazy. I feel mad, sad, happy, excited, hyper, and sleepy all at the same time and have no idea how to explain it to u. Plus I don't want to tell u how crazy I am.

And there are many more scenarios ... but no matter how she's feeling why can't people just say "you look great, congrats" just give me a compliment. No matter what, a nice compliment will make her feel good.

Maybe people probably genuinely care.. People ask me all the time and I don't have a problem with saying exactly how I feel. But that's just me personally.

This is my 5th pregnancy, 4th baby. I have learned to answer "how are you feeling " with a simple "Pregnant!"

I think they are just trying to be nice, make conversation, but I always tell them 'fine, just tired...".  Cause I'm not going to tell anyone about the giant bubble in my tummy that makes me feel like I'm going to explode or the constipation that hurts like no other- that's what I have you girls for!  ;)

But while we are on the topic of annoying questions how about: do you have a name picked out?

I tell them ' nope- we have no idea!'  And that is because I don't want anyone's opinion but my husband's!

This post makes Me laugh because I hate it when people ask me how I am feeling. My husband laughs at me all the time because every time someone asks he knows it drives me up the wall!! My mom asks every time I talk to her and it makes me crazy! I just say I'm fine. Just fine. Tired. But fine! Then leave it at that!

It's not just America, I'm in the UK and people constantly ask how I'm feeling and touch my belly! I hate it! I know it's just either concern or not knowing what to say but it still drives me crazy, especially the belly touching!

I'm getting super frustrated with that question with this pregnancy. We lost our last baby at 20 weeks, so I am just so overjoyed to be pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy right now. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow and we still haven't told many people other than family, but a few of them ask me that every time they talk to me!

I have only told one coworker and she asks me every. single. morning. I know she is trying to be nice, but honestly, I have felt like complete shit for the past 8 weeks, and I'm tired of being reminded of how miserable I am.
