This just screams Islamophobia and Anti-semitism. The kosher and Halal ways of slaughtering animals is actually more humane than the conventional way. That's the whole reason for doing it. They don't want the animal to suffer, because in their eyes it's a gift from God and one of his creations. This is absurd!!!!!

I completely disagree with that. Animals are slaughtered in the quickest way possible, and stunning/incapacitating them before they are killed is pointless. I am neither Jewish or Muslim, but I believe that Halal and Kosher slaughterings are more humane. Denmark allowing animals to have more rights than people is crossing a huge line and is ridiculous. If Christians had a specific way they prepared food, including the slaughtering of animals, it would never be banned.

Also, these animals are raised for slaughter. I know it can be difficult to think about, but this isn't the family dog who has been our companion for the past 12 years. These are one of millions of chickens that are raised for the sole purpose of human consumption. It may be cruel, but they don't need to be treated humanely, as long as they aren't suffering and being tortured and abused. The meat industry has perfected their methods of slaughtering so it happens the quickest, most painless way possible.

All I couls think of when I read this was the time the Copenhagen Zoo killed a healthy young giraffe in front of the public, then did the same thing to several lions. This smacks of hypocrisy to me.

I have slaughtered and processed many animals, but the "kosher" way? Absolutely unnecessary, cruel and a terrifying reflect on humans. I never went to those neighbors house again and I'm glad they moved off.

Nothing says "tasty" like hanging a animal from a beam alive, slitting it's throat, and watching and listening to it scream, cough and struggle while it slowly stops moving over a 2 minute span of pure fear and agony for it.

I know the guardian isn't always the most reliable news source, but this effectively explains how kosher and halal meats are slaughtered, compared to other widely used methods. It's arguably more humane than stunning the animal prior.

I fully support the zoo that slaughtered a giraffe infront of children and fed it to a giraffe. The only difference from the zoo in Denmark to zoos other places is that all of it happened with the public being aware.

And as far as I know what was banned (a year ago) was not halal slaughter but instead slaughter without anesthesia - so the draining of blood is still completely legal. Also: I don't think there were many (if any) who did halal slaughters without anesthesia in Denmark even before the new law.

Having sex with animals (with no harm to the animal) was legal in Denmark up to not long ago. There are weird old laws in every country. This was one that, in my circle at least, was laughed at: because how is that possible: not hurting an animal while forcing it to have sex?

Anyway: this thing about animal bordellos is completely new to me. I have absolutely never heard of it before.

What is my point: you all seem really quick to judge on what is the proper way to treat animals, but you also all have you facts from third party sources. The Danish newspapers that are quoted in the articles you reference are not what I would call stellar: they run stories that are half truths at best. Plus stuff seems to be lost in translation.

In Denmark you are allowed to shoot a cat on your property - in the states you are allowed to shoot at human trespasser.

I have a cat. In Denmark though, the amount of people who actually have hunting gear is way below the amount of people in the states who have guns - also in percentage.
