Love VS family. How to handle this problem?

My parents hate my husband and they keep threatening to disown me if I don't leave him😒 I'm 24 years old and have my head on straight. My hubby is a good guy as well. He's had previous issues but he's a changed man. I love him more than life but they still dislike him and its pissing me off.. It's getting to the point where I don't ever wanna talk to my parents again. Has anyone else had an issue where your family didn't like your SO? What did you do about it? What should I do to make them back off?

My parents don't even know I'm married.. But they are very controlling and have put me down and been emotional abusive since I was little and they are also acoholics. I struggle with disapproval from them with every   decision I have made as an adult. But they no longer care for me or put a roof over my head so it's not their business anymore. Sometimes you just have to walk away and disconnect yourself from negative people even if it's your parents.

I was on the receiving end of this. My husbands parents hated me because I kicked my druggy/ex felon brother out of our house. He was using drugs again and stole money from us. We have a 3 yr old and I told him he needed to GTFO. His mom and aunts were so rude to me. They asked for Christmas gifts back and things they had given me over time. I said fuck them and blocked them all. It wasn't until my husband told them that he no longer wanted to talk to them if they were going to treat me that way, that they apologized. I'm still bitter but we talk occasionally.

Tell them how it is! Tell them that hes the man you have chosen to spend your life with and if even though they dont like it they need to respect your decision. I went through this and my parents decided they didnt want to be a part of our life so they arent. Our life has been great and they are the ones missing out.

I don't have that issue but when you become married your two become one, a man leaves his family to be joined to his wife. Your family has no say so in your marriage, only you two and God do.

Same EXACT boat. I recently talked with my family and told them if they can't accept my fiance then they don't accept me because he is a part of me and is my life now. They decided to accept him because they don't want to lose me. My stepmom seems to still be on the fence but I couldn't care less if she's in my life or not. You need to tell them he's not going anywhere and if they can't accept him then they know where they can shove it. It would be one thing if he was a douche bag and terrible for you but if he's good to you, treats you well, and makes you happy then you need to do what is best for yourself.

My dad doesn't like my husband much but I live in Canada and my dad lives in Australia. What's he really going to do or say that will effect me? I'm 26, I've been with him for 7 years, our son is almost 6, and our daughter is due in October. My brother says my husband isn't part of the family and he means nothing and he's a piece of crap who's not a good parent and is useless. My husband has a full time job and is a ticketed electrician. He's always provided for us. He went to jail once for crashing a car into a house while drunk and beating the crap of of the home owner and then trying to steal the cop car (his cousin was assaulted by the home owner) my mum knows all the good and bad about him and she's accepted him after she got to know over the years. Took about 3 years haha. My mum and stepdad never tried to tell me who I couldn't be with because they knew I was going to do what I wanted either way and the only option they had was to support me as a parent should and not try to control me. No parent should do that to their child. Your an adult. Make your own choices. Only you know the intricicaye workings of your relationship and it's honestly none of your parents business and they can either be in your life or not.

Honestly, the best advice I can give you is to follow your heart. At the end of the day this could be the person you end up spending the rest of your life with so if you feel strongly about the relationship trust your instinct. Sometimes family can be the most negative influence and of course are the first to express their disapproval. I've had experience with this first hand my mother was never happy with anything I accomplished growing up - I made straight A's, got a graduate education and now working towards my Doctorate while running my own business before the age of 30. Still not good enough in her eyes. Btw she never liked anyone I brought home either. Lol
