Living next to railroad tracks, 20 feet away!

I'm potentially going to rent a house. This house is in an older neighborhood so the house has character, which I'm in love with. Again I'm renting so this isn't permanent.

The pros: It's bigger than my studio apartment that I rent now. It's cheaper in rent. I'd have a yard and space for guests/family. The house is in great condition along with the kitchen appliances, washer/dryer and etc.

Cons: the neighborhood is older so some of the houses around look like they're falling apart and I don't know what the people are like inside of those houses. It's 20 feet from railroad tracks. I'm not sure how often trains go by either.

Have you ever dealt with the issue of living next to an airport or railroad tracks but you got used to it or left because it was too annoying?
