I read: Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, Birthing From Within, and The Thinking Woman's Guide to Childbirth. Waaaay better....the what to expect book is so conventional and doctor/hospital oriented....neither of which am I dealing with this time.

I have to disagree. I have had 3 hospital births, 2 of them were very hard, and I never felt out of control. There were definitely times when things were asked of me or to me, but I just told them what I wanted and they were happy to comply. You can be a good advocate for yourself and what you want

I have found it helpful. I don't know why there are so many haters!

It's a great informational book - yes there can be complications but to be able to know what to look for and be able to bring any concerns to your dr/ob/midwife etc. is awesome to have that knowledge. if she wants to look into other books - awesome! I'm not slamming one or the other because most people's preferences greatly differ so I don't see the need for all the 'not-so-nice' comments 😧

It's a great beginning place. However I'd recommend the thinking woman s guide to childbirth, Ina Macy's guide to childbirth for a more holistic approach. Also dr sear's the baby book is great for pregnancy info, birth info.. And covers newborn info (development) through age 2 !

Just be aware, it will make you think you have everything wrong. It's a little too detailed in my opinion.

It was a waste of money for me πŸ˜’ My mil urged me to get it... I should've known maybe to her this type of book is "great" but for someone like me on different apps and constantly reading and connected, I didn't need this book. I was always one step ahead and there was nothing in there that I didn't already know.

I see mixed reviews. Someone lent this book to me.  Why are ladies hating on this book?  Just want to know the reasons.

Waste of money and time. I already knew everything it covered, I kept hoping I'd learn something new but it was all filler. It took pages to explain things I read on other apps or heard from dr in 2 sentences. I'm sure it would help someone else with time and no clue tho.

Yeah I didnt think it was too detailed. And even as I skim through it during my second pregnancy I dont get the vibe that I have to follow all the advice. It didnt make me worry or feel bad about myself. I think its a good book for FTMs even if it is centered around hospital births which is how most women do it. Especially FTMs. obviously there are alot of home births but i dont think thats the majority.

So far I kind of like it. I like the level of detail and I want to know both the bad and the good. The tone of the book seems encouraging and also matter-of-fact. I haven't read anything else yet though.
