Is having a sibling important?

I only have 1 son his 6 yrs old . I come from a big family n I at least want one more for my son to at least have a brother or a sister but everyone tells me not to have another because its too hard out there . But then if I wait longer I'm afraid my son won't bond with his sibling or will be able to play with him/she.  Is it really important for children to have at least one sibling?

Yes it's important for me to not have an only child but not because I want them to play together or even be friends. I want more then one so that when I or DH die my children still have immediate family. Your older son will never have the same interests as a younger sibling. The age gap is too big. He'll probably move into a mini parent role.

It's not anyone's business how many children you have, if your providing for them. That's your  choice.

My SO is an only child and although it wasn't his fault because his mother had fertility problems, he tells me that he felt so lonely sometimes and had a harder time socializing, and that if we ever have kids we have to have more than one.

I loved having siblings. Can't imagine my life without them. We were always there for each other no matter what. When one was in trouble with the parents we had each other to talk to about it. I have only child friends and they loved being only children. Neither is right or wrong, good or bad. So what's right for you and your family

To me having a sibling is very important, every child is a blessing. My dream is to have 3 children, but 2 for sure!! It's ideal. I wouldn't want my child to grow up alone, I like to have a big family and see my children play and grow together.

I'm one of 5. I'm the middle child and the oldest and youngest are 18 years apart. I'm only really close with one of them. I have nothing in common with the other 3. We are only having one child because I'm disabled. This is a high risk pregnancy and I will only be able to be an active, involved parent to one child. I don't think this baby will suffer, lack love or friends. He/She will have plenty of cousins and is anxiously awaited by mommy, daddy, 5 grandparents, countless aunts, uncles and loved ones.

I think a child should have at least one sibling. But I'm mainly commenting to say that my siblings are all much older than I; my sister was 12 when I was born, my brother was 14, and my half brother was 20. My half brother and I have a very loving relationship, though I would not consider us close. I think that is mostly because he was already moved out of the house quite a while before I was born, though. I am very, very close with my sister and other brother though. My sister is actually one of my very best and closest friends - it didn't take us years to get to that point either, we have been that close my entire life. 
So I don't think you should stress over an age gap :) Also, this is your and your husband's decision. Don't let other people's negativity impact how you choose to live your lives. :)

I don't think it's that imperative to have more than one. I had an older sibling by 3 yrs and we have never been close. Now as adults, we love each other, of course, however I hardly have a relationship with him and he only lives 45 min away. I am pregnant with my first and also have a physical disability. I don't have my heart set on having multiple children as much as wanting to be able to provide as much as I can for this sweet boy we are having first.

I'm the youngest of 4. I haven't talked to my brothers in like 3 years. My closest brother is 5 years older and we were close until a few years ago. I don't think its something you have to do, single children need discipline but they tend to interact well with adults. There are pros and cons to each.
