All natural or epidural?

I have chose to attempt an unmedicated birth. I'm very insistent that I do not want any interventions unless it is medically necessary for my baby or myself. We came to this decision after researching the effects of interventions and epidurals. Contrary to what some women think I'm not making this choice because I want a pat on the back or because I want to say I did it. In my opinion is it what is best for my baby and myself.

The only reason for me personally wanting to avoid an epidural is that I don't want it to slow labour down, so I'll try other stuff first. I am, however, not an idiot, and if I need it then I will definitely have it!!

Our instructor said something that really stuck with me at our birthing class last week. She chooses to say medicated or unmedicated. Just because you choose pain management doesn't make it any less natural to push a child out. With that said....medicated all the way for me lol!

I got an epidural at 8 cm. stupid of me when I think about it now. The epidural slowed my labor down significantly. Wasn't worth it I still felt everything. This is my third I'll be doing a water birth at a birth center where there are no meds or rude doctors pushing meds on me

I'm scared of the cascade of interventions. I really don't want a c-section (but will be okay if there's an emergency), so I'll be going without the epidural. I'm not against the pain relief, just the things that could follow. They say an epidural slows down labor so they put you on pitocin, the pitocin causes more intense contractions that cause the baby to become distressed and you end up with an emergency c-section. I realize this doesn't happen to all women but I feel like no epidural is best for me.

Yep using word "natural" as opposed to having pain relief makes no sense. In UK natural is just as opposed to C-section (but then they have a middle ground of pain relief that isn't as dramatic as epidural, which as a Brit living in US I really wish we had here! Give me gas and air any day). Hugely do not want epidural but not because I am warrior-type who thinks we are supposed to do it pain-free (though kudos to those women), but because the idea of tube in spine and being numb and fairly immobile frightens me way more than labour pains- in advance! Open to having one if it feels less scary in the face of awful labour pains... But no plans in advance to. Having a lumbar puncture was bad enough!

No epidural for me! Gas and air is brilliant and there's no paralysis and I'm more likely to get home quicker without. It freaks me out that I won't be able to move. Also, I've heard of a few women whose backs have been destroyed due to epidurals going wrong or not taking at all and causing damage!! I plan on just repeating "it will be over soon" until my baby is here!lol
