I have that. However, I don't pick the hair on my head. I just pick out all my eyelashes and eyebrows. so I have to always use eyeliner to fill in gaps or wear beanies if they are completely gone until they grow back

Mine started one day in 6th grade. I pulled one hair out of my eyebrow while I was sitting in PE at school. Apparently I continued to pull them out without even realizing it. I didn't know until I got home and my mom asked "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR EYEBROW?!" then I realized what I had actually done and pulled just about the whole thing. Then it stopped for a few months or a year. Then I started with the hair on my head. Both sides of my head. I had went to a friends house and continued to pull. I didn't realize what I had done until I was going to leave and the whole floor was covered in hair. And it hasn't stopped since. It's so hard to wear my hair down. And it's so embarrassing. My best friend also has trich. But she pulls her hair, eye lashes, and eyebrows. I'm so glad that we met each other about 10 years ago. When we're together, she helps me and I help her. If I catch her pulling I make her stop and vice versa. I miss the head of hair I used to have sooo bad.

I'm not sure what the differences are, but I know my 6 year old has a skin picking issue... I'm not sure how to go about it, just wondering is this something you've done since childhood? I'm trying to get a better understanding of it

I don't know if this is in the same category, but I'm also a nail biter. It's bad. Sometimes I will bite them until they bleed and then even more to even out the jagged edges. So I have no facial hair and no fingernails :)

Half the time I don't realize I'm pulling. I normally pull when I'm concentrating on something else like driving, watching tv, playing on my phone, etc... plus I have dandruff which just makes me want to pull more. Do any of yall have it where it makes you want to drag the root across your lips? I know it sounds very weird, but I have read where other people do it (myself included). I have also seen where some people eat the root which is sooo bad. Then some people have to pull the root off of the hair, which my best friend does.

I have trich, I keep my hair short and styled curly so no one will notice the hair pulling. It started as hair twirling as a child, then it turning into twisting locks of hair till some broke off, they the real pulling started. I bought a tangle toy, they are sensory stimulation toys that keep you distracted from the hair pulling, it has helped immensely, I got a 3 pack on Amazon for around $10. There were taken sometime around March 2014 I am struggling now, because I had been doing so well, but a drug the had me try for my Stage 3 endometriosis is making my hair fall out in clumps, and it makes my pull urge worse.

I have it been pulling since 2008. I want to stop so bad but nothing works. I basically have little to no hair in the whole front half of my head in the middle and both sides. Wish I could get help.

no I have dermatillomania, they are closely related. you might check out a yahoo group, pickaderms. it is a group filled with both disorders and they have a moderator who has some training and offers great advice.
