Son and boyfriend bonding

My boyfriend and I have been together 9 months now. I have a 5 year old son from a previous relationship. My son is very very shy with everyone in general. He has opened up greatly with my boyfriend but still is very reluctant with "sharing" me. If my and him are playing and my boyfriend wants to join, he just quits. I know it's still very early but I've never been with anyone but his father so I'm just wondering if anyone has tips to helping their children let another person into their life.
