How far away are you from home?

Question

I'm gonna be moving 2,952 miles away for college and I won't be able to go home till December so that's 4 months without my parents or friends or even dogs and cat. I'm so terrified because everyone I know is staying and can drive home every month or whenever if they want. Like no one is going as far as me. 
 I'm extremely close w my mom so I'm so scared of missing her too much. I know there's Skype and everything but it's not the same as a mom hug you know...im just scared because if I want to go home for a weekend, I can't. idk. 
i won't have a car either. So I'll essentially be stuck in the same town without my family for months and I've never been without them for more than 10 days. I'm just so scared. I know it's good to leave the nest but I cannot stop being scared. I don't wanna miss my mom, I don't wanna feel alone and trapped. It feels like no one else is moving so far away. I'm only 17 too so it feels super young to be moving across the country and living on my own. I'm thinking I should've stayed closer to home but there's no turning back now. 
Has anyone else moved far for college without their parents, like far enough that you can't drive home?

I'm moving just under 2500 miles away (Portland, OR to Milwaukee, WI). It's the furthest I've ever been from home.

I'm currently living 2500 miles away from my hometown, Atlanta GA. It is definitely hard at times--especially being so many time zones away from my family and not being able to call them after work or in the evenings hardly ever. But I'm really glad I made the move. I am having a grand adventure and becoming more independent--both of which are incredible satisfying. I've been in California for 9 months at this point and it feels like the time has flown.

Hi! I know how you're feeling, I'm moving from Norway to Vancouver in 1 week. I'm kinda scared, but mostly just excited. I think I'll miss my friends more than my family initially, but it's going to be hard to be away from both for so long. However, I like to think that eventually I'm going to have great new friends and a support system over there! Which isn't to say that anyone could replace the friends and family I have at home, my circle is just going to expand. It's scary to leave everything you know, that's safe, that you love - but you're never going to lose that. Instead you have the chance to experience s whole new part of life, and meet amazing people in the process. Good luck!!!

P.S! I've found that the best way to stay in touch with my friends who have moved is snapchat (yeah I know) and to schedule skype sessions every 1-2 weeks :)

I moved to Arizona from Nevada which was 6 hours away and I was absolutely terrified! The first 2-3 months were hard and I called my parents all the time. I am so glad I did it though! It has made me such a stronger person and made me open to new people and opportunities. : )
